L'ORCHIDÉE DE CHINE
About as high-end a Chinese dining experience as you can get in the city, this is the better of restaurateur George Lau's Montreal restaurants (the other being Le Chrysanthème. l'Orchidée de Chine serves a mixed bag of Szechunanese and Hunanese specialties although the authenticity of dishes like General Tao chicken may be frowned upon. Try to avoid the waiguoren (foreigner) favourites and try something a little more authentic, like steamed fish with ginger and scallions. Many dishes are lighter and more balanced than your ususal Chinese fare. The decor is nice (extremely nice for a Chinese restaurant) and the service friendly. In my mind this is about as good as it gets for Chinese food in a nice restaurant setting in Montreal, but its nothing amazing
