L'EXPRESS

Absolute hands-down winner for re-creating bistro ambiance in Montreal. Everything about L'Express from the zinc-topped bar, the marble table tops with neat linen, the cramped and noisy little dining room with cream accents and just-dim-enough lighting and the jar of cornichons on the table evokes Paris (at least Paris as we like to imagine it). But, in my opinion (and one that is sure to be contested), the bistro fare at L'Express does not live up to the surroundings much of the time. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with the food, it is simply more workmanlike than inspired. I recommend coming here if you've never been, if only to experience the ambiance. Reservations are essential as L'Express remains very popular.
