L'ATELIER
If I had stopped eating after the first two dishes I was served at L'Atelier I could have called it the best restaurant in Montreal. The foie gras on grilled tuna with a valrohna chocolate sauce and the escargots risotto with foie gras shavings were both divine. Subsequent dishes were merely good and the desserts were terrible. All in all, it evens out to a great but not an amazing performance. and I had more or less the same impression on my subsequent visit. Offering appetizer sized dishes, L'Atelier recommends ordering three to four per person. This is a lot as portions are quite generous. The decor is trendy but interesting (faux log cabin look anyone?) and the service friendly. Special mention must be made of the sommelier, a very engaging and professional person who must be considered one of the better practicioners of the profession in our city.
