CUISINE ET DÉPENDANCE
The name is based on a French film (which I have never seen) and the food is French-inspired market fare served in a smart whitewashed and sparsely decorated space. This restaurant received rave reviews from Montreal food critics for its combination of great food and reasonable prices, but I can't confirm either. The food was certainly good - it was late fall and the offering of stewed lamb shanks and beef cheeks was right on the money - but nothing exceptional or particularly inspiring. The bill was pretty substantial considering that it was for comfort food. Maybe Cuisine et Dépendance is worth another look...but first impressions count for so much.
