Over the course of the past month or so, I have eaten at Bistro Beaver Hall a few more times. As much as I like Europea, I have not been a big fan of this Jerome Ferrer venture, not only for the odd combination of average bistro fare served with fine dining flourishes but also because the restaurant still looks like the Briskets that used to occupy this space. A mildly disturbing association to say the least, but if the food was better nobody would bitch about the decor.

I was excited to try Andiamo, Ferrer’s new “Mediterranean cuisine” venture, but I almost balked when I walked through the door. The decor is what I would describe as Greek Spaceship. The plates on the wall and blue and white checked tablecloths recall a Greek fisherman’s tavern but the futuristic white chairs look like they were stolen from a Star Trek convention and they combine with a wall size postcard-style photo of a Mediterranean harbour and little chandeliers over the bar to give the restaurant a clumsy, disorganized feel. To make matters worse, the decor has all been piled into the shell of the forgettable Asian restaurant that used to be here with its suspended ceilings and cheap flooring. Continue Reading…
